F&M Trust, an independent community bank based in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday to celebrate its first community office in Maryland at 83 W. Washington St. in Hagerstown.
The full-service bank opened July 1 and features a lobby for walk-in customers, as well as commercial, mortgage, and investment and trust services.
“I know what’s in this community. I know the goodness and the potential that is here. And we want to be part of that and everything that is happening downtown,” said Tim Henry, President and CEO of F&M Trust. “The banking model that we prescribe to is a good fit for communities like Hagerstown. It’s a model that pays attention to all the different layers of fabric in a community.”
Since its founding in 1906, F&M has grown from a single office in downtown Chambersburg to 22 community offices in four counties in Pennsylvania and in Hagerstown. The bank opened a regional headquarters in Harrisburg in 2020 and moved into a new corporate headquarters in Chambersburg this summer.
“We feel this has been a long time in the coming,” Warren Elliott, Chairman of the Board for Franklin Financial Services Corporation, the bank’s holding company, said of the newest F&M Trust community office. “We feel like it’s a very natural extension of what we do, and we expect a long, prosperous relationship with Hagerstown and Washington County.”
Laura Lowry, who began her banking career in Washington County in 1981, manages the Hagerstown community office, which currently has seven employees.
“It’s amazing to see the new energy and positivity and all the great things that are transforming this community,” Lowry said. “We are excited to open our first office in Maryland here, and we are committed to building community and showing support for all that is happening in Hagerstown.”
Representatives from the City of Hagerstown, Washington County Board of Commissioners, Washington County Chamber of Commerce, Maryland Delegates Brenda J. Thiam and William Wivell, and Maryland Senator Paul D. Corderman presented F&M Trust with certificates of recognition and citations.
